A Welcome from the President

In the midst of a cycle of profound social and economic change, the Pedro Barrié de la Maza Foundation has launched itself into an exciting new phase marked by the implementation of its 2010-2014 strategic plan, with the aim of becoming more efficient and enhance the fulfilment of our foundation’s goal, which is none other than to promote the development of Galicia.  This was the target set by Pedro Barrié de la Maza when he created the Foundation in 1966, and pursued by our previous president,  over a period of forty years.

In this new scenario, the Foundation remains true to its hallmark of identity by making education the cornerstone of its strategy and making a commitment to talent and excellence with a view to training and preparing the leaders that Galicia needs, regardless of the field from which they come, whether it be economics, research, culture, or social aspects, to give but a few examples. To this end, it is essential that we do our best to identify and cater for the needs of the future inhabitants of our region.

From our twin headquarters in the cities of A Coruña and Vigo, and from wherever we may be working, we are also, and to a greater extent, forging closer links with the world of research and innovation, whilst maintaining our commitment to our culture and heritage, the elements from which the roots of our land draw nourishment. Our support for the social sphere receives no less attention, as witnessed by the programmes we run, either alone or in partnership with other institutions, designed to provide organisations working in the social field with the backing they need to carry out their work.

Finally, in the name of the Foundation’s Board of Patrons and staff, I would like to express our gratitude to all those institutions and individuals who year after year add their efforts to our projects and activities, endorsing our goals and our commitment to Galicia through their participation.
