'DIANA' PHARMACO- GENETICS RESEARCH PROGRAMME

This programme, created in 2008, is aimed at developing a group of research projects about the effectiveness of medicine and the minimization of side effects, based on new genetic tools for personalized medicine for several pathologies of great social and economic impact as cardiovascular disease, AIDS's treatment or different types of cancer.

During 2011, several projects have finished the research stage leading to the filing of a patent in the United States, about new genetic markers for their use in the diagnosis, prognosis and monitoring the treatment for thyroid cancer; and a national patent about new methods for monitoring the treatments with antithrombotics.

The developments reached until this moment and the scientific and clinical knowledge associated are being currently applied, with consistent social benefits, through the genetic analysis carried out by the Fundación Pública Galega de Medicina Xenómica (Galician Genomic Medicine Public Foundation), entity under the SERGAS that carries out all the genetic tests in our autonomous community.
